If making a hat for your child’s school Easter hat parade fills you with dread, let your children come to our Easter Hat & Mask Making Workshop for a fun filled creative afternoon with their friends, and save yourself the trouble! And enjoy a delicious Devonshire Tea in our Garden Cafe whilst your children are at it!
This event is for children in yrs K-6. Pre-school children are welcome with a supervising adult.
Entry is $5. Please register to secure your position and chosen project.
This year children are able to choose one of five different projects:
Group 1 : Floral Hats
Children will be given a cardboard hat with elastic trim to decorate with paper and/or artificial flowers. The group leader and helper will demonstrate and assist children in creating and securing flowers and ribbons to their hats. Some paper flowers will be partially assembled for the children to finish off, and others ready for children to do themselves with assistance as needed. Techniques will include cutting fringes and coiling paper, coiling a cardboard spiral to make a rose, and layering simple flower shapes.
Group 2 : Dinosaur Hats
Children will be given a cardboard hat with elastic trim to decorate with plastic dinosaurs, and a 3D volcano and trees that the children will be shown how to make themselves. The group leader and helper will assist children in taping brown paper onto a cardboard tube to form a volcano, finishing with pre-cut cellophane pieces for lava. Children will also complete partially assembled trees, and decorate their hats with flat paper grass, ponds and eggs.
Group 3: Eggs & Chicks Hats
Children will be given a cardboard hat with elastic trim to decorate with a selection of plastic eggs, chenille chicks, feathers, nesting materials, and a woven paper basket. The group leader and helper will guide children through making paper feathers and in securing decorations to their hats.
Group 4: Bunny Mask
Children will receive a sculpted cardboard bunny mask with elastic to decorate with their own choice of whiskers, eyelashes, teeth, bows, or possibly even glasses, and they will be guided through making their own ears.
Group 5: Creative Mask
Children will receive a cardboard mask with elastic to decorate however they choose, from a selection of coloured paper, feathers, gemstones, and other trims. Our friendly leader and helper will demonstrate paper folding techniques to get the children started.
